What is the difference between DTM and DT connectors?

Connector Selection Guide

Selecting the Right Connector

Step 1 - Circuit Amperage

Determine the circuit amperage requirements for your application.
Deutsch connectors have the following amperage ratings:
DTM Series - 7.5 amps continuous
DT Series - 13 amps continuous
JS-16-00 Jiffy Splice - 13 amps continuous
DTP and DTHD (Size 12) 25 amps continuous
JS-12-00 Jiffy Splice - 25 amps continuous
DTHD (Size 8) 60 amps continuous
DTHD (Size 4) 100 amps continuous
JS4-00 Jiffy Spice - 100 amps continuous

Step 2 - Number of Cavities

How many contacts do you need? Deutsch refers to this as the number of cavities.
DT and DTM Series in-line connectors are available with 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 or 12 cavities.
DT Flange Mount Series Receptacles are available with 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 or 48 cavities.
DTP Series connectors are available with 2 or 4 cavities.
DTP Flange Mount Series Receptacles are available with 4 cavities.
DTHD Series connectors are single wire connectors.
Jiffy Spices are an economical alternative for single wire, in-line, connections.

Step 3 - Pin Type

The last step is selecting the type of pins and sockets you prefer.
All connectors are listed as complete assemblies with your choice of Pin or Socket option. You will find a pull down menu next to the connector listings where you can choose the type of pins or sockets you prefer.

Make your pin and socket choices based on the wire size and insulation diameter you are using and whether you prefer Solid style or Stamped & Formed style contacts.

Nickel plated contacts are generally used for circuits such as power, lighting and controls while Gold plated contacts should be used for critical circuits such as Sensors, Data and Communications. For more help in selecting the right pins and sockets see our Pin and Socket Guide.

In the process of adding another pin into the back of an ezguide 250 for radar output and of course have been presented with the question of what series of deutsch connectors - are they DT's or DTM's?? Only going off memory that I used a pair of pointy nosed pliers to remove the wedgelock the last time and so from pics I am thinking DTM? Is this standard for all Trimble plugs? Similarly I know that Agleader use Deutsch - am I right in saying that they use DT's across the board?

All I need now is shares in the company as the price of them they must surely be making some money!!!

In general I agree with your observation that the 250 uses the DTM series and Ag Leader uses the DT series for their module plugs.

Here's how I keep them straight in my mind - The DTM series is the physically smaller counterpart of the DT series. I think of the the "M" as meaning minature. Most of the plugs will have the part number stamped on them although they might be hard to read. If the Part number for the plug contains the "M" then you need the smaller "M" series sockets and/or pins. If the plug does not contain the "M" then you need the DT series sockets and/or pins.

Ag Leader uses the DTP series for the high current power to certan modules. These require the larger DTP sockets and/or Pins. Here I think of the "P" as referring to power which relates to a physically larger socket or pin in my mind.

These are the tricks that I use to keep these three series straight in my mind. There are many other combinations to add to the confusion especially when trying to order parts. pipesathome

Thanks Ted for your wisdom. All I need to find now is a supplier that does these bits and pieces at a reasonable price!! CR9060

Check out LADD Industries. That is where I get mine. You can get a whole DTM kit with pins and connectors. They are not the cheapest thing but if you will be using them alot it is better than buying them individually. Phone: (800)223-1236 Or email [email protected] Good Luck! tedbear

Good luck on the small quantities and good prices. You may not be successful with either one. Here in the States we get ours through the Ladd Company (www.laddinc.com).

We have found another source that makes a copy cat connector that will mate with some Deutsch connectors. These have been available at a better price. These copy cats are only for the more popular configurations. We have used these when available with successful results. epw

This is a site I found that carries the more common Deutsch connectors. I haven't ordered anything from them, so I can't comment on that. Not sure about shipping to Australia either. aglasergps

Amphenol SineSystems makes an equivalent part to the Deutsch DT series. They call it the AT series - http://www.sineco.com/AT-Series_ep_177.html

The Deutsch patent must have run out or something....anyways, these parts can be more readily found thru various electronic suppliers - Digi-key, Newark, Mouser, etc....

Deutsch only distributes their products through one source per country which makes it harder to find (Ladd in the US, Cantwell up here in Canada).

Amphenol Sine Systems (www.sineco.com) carries direct crosses to the Deutsch DT Series. The Amphenol Sine Systems series is called the AT Series. Here is a link to their AT Series: http://www.sineco.com/AT-Series_ep_177.html
The entire AT Series is Deutsch DT compatible.

Right now, they have an AT repair kit (DT repair kit replacement) on sale: http://www.sineco.com/AT-RK100--AT-Series-Repair-Kit_p_899.html buck1400
